About the artist...Ruthe Blalock Jones
Shawnee-Delaware-Peoria
Director Emeritus and Associate Professor of Art, Bacone College, Muskogee, Oklahoma, since 1979.
Appointed Commissioner of Indian Arts and Crafts Board (IACB) January 10, 2011 by Department of the Interior Secretary Kenneth Salazar.
Her works focus on the traditional American Indian ceremonial and social events. They are recorded in paintings, drawings, limited edition prints in linoleum block, woodcut, and serigraphs. Over the years, her works have been published by Gilcrease Museum, Tulsa, Oklahoma, The University of Oklahoma Press, The Museum of Natural History, Washington, D.C., Time-Life Books, Syracuse University, "Futures for Children", Albuquerque, New Mexico, and the United States Department of Justice Annual Conference on Child Abuse and Neglect, to name a few.
Past advisory positions have been with the Chicago Art Institute, Oklahoma Historical Society, and Advisory Committee to the Director of the Sam Noble Museum, University of Oklahoma, Norman, Oklahoma. Most recently, she served as a panelist at the British Museum, London, England, United Kingdom.
Recent showings have been at the UTSUNOMIYA Museum of Art, Utsunomiya, Japan, and "Arts in Embassies", Kampala, Uganda, Endicott College, Beverly, Massachusetts, Cherokee Art Market 2011, Cherokee Casino, Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Red Earth Master Artists Exhibit 2011, Red Earth Gallery, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Select collections of her art include the Heard Museum, Phoenix, Arizona, Philbrook Art Center, Tulsa, Oklahoma, Gilcrease Museum, Tulsa, Oklahoma, Museum of the American Indian, New York City, New York, United States Department of the Interior, Washington, D.C., John H. She has received many Honors and Awards such as the Governor's Art Award, State of Oklahoma, the 5th Annual Spirit of the Heard Award, the Heard Museum, Phoenix, Arizona, Oklahoma Women's Hall of Fame, SWAIA Indian Market, Santa Fe, New Mexico, University of Oklahoma, Norman, Oklahoma, James Auchiah Award, Jacobson House - First Annual Pony Moon Gala, University of Oklahoma, Norman, Oklahoma, March 2011 was featured on Shawnee READ posted for Tulsa City/County Library along with granddaughters Maggie Boyett and Lily Jones, named 2011 Red Earth Festival Honored One for Red Earth Festival June 3-5, 2011, May 2011 Red Earth issue of Oklahoma Today magazine featured artist, and more.
